Northeast Ohio Faces School Closures Amid Dangerous Heat
Northeast Ohio is experiencing a significant heatwave, with heat index values forecasted to approach 100°F (37.8°C) on Wednesday, 2 September 2026. In response, several schools across the region, including those in North Olmsted, Elyria, Lorain, Parma, and Cleveland, have announced closures. A heat advisory has been issued for the entire region, with the National Weather Service expanding its coverage eastward. Wednesday is expected to be the hottest day, with widespread highs in the 90s°F (32-37°C) and high humidity making it feel even hotter. Thunderstorms with damaging winds and hail are also possible before daybreak, followed by additional storms later in the evening.
