Flood Advisory Issued for Northern Districts of Hawai‘i Island Amidst Heavy Showers
A flood advisory has been issued for the northern districts of Hawai‘i County, effective until 6:15 p.m. Doppler radar at 3:21 p.m. indicated significant rainfall, with heavy showers and thunderstorms occurring over the interior and northern Big Island. The rain is falling at a rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour, with the most intense precipitation observed upslope of Waimea. Areas expected to experience flooding include Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Waikōloa Village, Kapa‘au, Honoka‘a, Pōhakuloa Training Area, Pōhakuloa Camp, Pu‘uanahulu, Kamuela, Puako, Kawaihae, and Hōlualoa. Minor flooding is anticipated on roads, in areas with poor drainage, and within streams. A broader flood watch is also in effect for the region, indicating a potential for more widespread flooding conditions.
