Suspect Arrested After Rat Poison Found in Baby Food Jars in Europe, Raising Safety Concerns
A suspect has been arrested following the discovery of rat poison in baby food jars across parts of Europe, causing significant safety concerns. The contamination was identified in products from HiPP, a Germany-based organic baby food manufacturer. The affected jars were found in Austria, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic. Authorities have removed five tainted jars from shelves, but there is concern that at least one more contaminated product may still be in circulation. The investigation began on April 18 when a jar purchased in Eisenstadt, Austria, was found to contain rat poison. HiPP has since recalled all its baby food jars from SPAR supermarkets in Austria, and retailers in Slovakia and the Czech Republic have also cleared the brand from their shelves. The case involves attempted extortion, with the suspect allegedly sending a blackmail message to HiPP. The company has urged consumers to be vigilant for signs of tampering, such as damaged lids or unusual odors.
