Idaho Legislature Forms Task Force to Address Health Insurer Practices Amid Hospital Dispute
The Idaho Legislature has established a new task force, the Idaho Health Insurers Working Group, in response to a contract dispute between a major health insurer, Regence, and the Portneuf Regional Medical Center in East Idaho. The dispute arose after Regence dropped the hospital from its network, citing unreasonable pay increase demands from the hospital's for-profit owners. In contrast, the hospital accused Regence of denying the majority of its claims. The task force, led by House Speaker Mike Moyle and Senate President Pro Tempore Kelly Anthon, aims to study the practices of health insurers in Idaho, focusing on issues such as claim denial rates, delays in treatment due to prior authorization, and the financial impact on healthcare providers. The group includes eight members, half of whom are from East Idaho, and is set to hold its first meeting on August 11.
