Department of Justice Launches West Coast Health Care Strike Force to Combat Fraud
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has announced the formation of a new fraud strike force aimed at tackling healthcare fraud in Arizona, Nevada, and Northern California. This initiative, known as the West Coast Health Care Fraud Strike Force, is part of the DOJ's National Fraud Enforcement Division. It will collaborate with U.S. Attorney's Offices in the targeted regions. The strike force is a response to increasing healthcare fraud in these areas, with the DOJ citing data that shows a significant rise in fraudulent activities. The initiative will work in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Inspector General, the FBI, the DEA, and other law enforcement agencies. The DOJ has previously used similar models to prosecute over 6,200 defendants in fraud cases totaling more than $45 billion.
