A new consensus report published in the journal Bipolar Disorders emphasizes the importance of circadian rhythms in treating bipolar disorder. The report, developed by a panel of 30 experts from 15 countries, outlines the critical knowledge mental health professionals need to optimize care for patients with bipolar disorder. The study highlights that disruptions in circadian rhythms are significant contributors to mood episodes in bipolar disorder. The experts reached a consensus on 342 statements related to circadian science, health, and specific chronotherapies, such as light therapy and structured daily routines, which can help stabilize mood and improve sleep.
