Waterford Airport's €30m Runway Expansion to Boost Regional Connectivity
Waterford Airport is undergoing a significant transformation with a €30 million investment aimed at extending its runway and upgrading infrastructure. The project, which commenced with a sod-turning ceremony, will extend the runway to 2,287 meters and widen it to 45 meters, allowing it to accommodate large commercial jets. This development is expected to reinstate commercial passenger services by late 2027, with a goal of handling over 400,000 passengers annually by 2032. The investment, supported by a U.S. investor, marks a pivotal moment for the airport, which has not offered commercial routes for the past decade. The expansion is seen as a catalyst for economic growth in the South East region of Ireland, enhancing connectivity and supporting various sectors including tourism and offshore wind energy projects.
