Digital IDs Gain Traction in the U.S. with Integration into Smartphone Wallets
Digital IDs, including driver's licenses and passports, are becoming increasingly integrated into smartphone wallets across the United States. Currently, 21 states and territories support digital IDs, with compatibility varying across Apple Wallet, Google Wallet, and Samsung Wallet. These digital IDs are not intended to replace physical documents but offer a convenient way to verify identity at TSA checkpoints and other locations. The process involves scanning official documents and verifying identity through photos or videos. While digital IDs offer convenience, they are not yet universally accepted, and users are advised to carry physical IDs as well.
