Black and Jewish Communities Unite to Combat Hate Through Documentary and Education
Civil rights veteran Rev. Dr. Benjamin Franklin Chavis Jr. and documentary filmmaker Dr. Shari Rogers are spearheading efforts to reconnect Black and Jewish communities in America. Their collaboration began after a chance meeting in New York following the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack. Through Rogers' documentary 'Shared Legacies' and the organization Spill the Honey, they aim to revive the historical coalition between these communities. The documentary serves as a repository of testimonies from leaders who lived through the Black-Jewish coalition, highlighting the shared struggles and mutual support between the two groups. The initiative includes a five-hour curriculum supporting the film, already implemented in high schools and law schools across the U.S., aiming to educate younger generations about this important history.
