Fisk University Recognized as Top Private HBCU by Forbes
Fisk University, Nashville's oldest institution of higher learning, has been ranked No. 7 on Forbes' list of the 10 best private Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Founded in 1866, Fisk is renowned for its Fisk Jubilee Singers and notable alumni, including civil rights leaders John Lewis and W.E.B. Du Bois. The university's president, Agenia Walker Clark, expressed honor at the recognition, highlighting Fisk's mission to provide transformative education and its history of cultivating leaders and advancing social justice. The rankings were released on August 1, 2026, and also included Tennessee State University among the top 10 public HBCUs.
