PwC Projects Global AI Infrastructure Investment to Reach $31.6 Trillion by 2050, U.S. to Account for 48%
Global investment in AI infrastructure is projected to reach $31.6 trillion by 2050, according to modeling commissioned by PwC from Oxford Economics across 46 countries. Annual capital expenditure is expected to rise from $800 billion this year to $1.8 trillion by 2050. The United States is anticipated to account for a substantial portion of this spending, approximately $15.1 trillion, or 48% of the total. Asia Pacific follows with $8.2 trillion, led by China and India, while Europe and the Middle East make up the remainder. A significant trend highlighted is that equipment will represent about 70% of data center capital expenditure, rising to 93% by 2050, fundamentally changing the nature of data centers as assets. This shift means that data centers will increasingly resemble equipment-heavy operations rather than traditional property businesses.
