St. Mary-Milk River Study Nears Completion, Seeks Public Input on Water Management
The International Joint Commission's St. Mary and Milk Rivers Study Board is nearing the completion of a five-year study on water sharing between the U.S. and Canada. A public meeting was held in Havre, Montana, to gather feedback on the study, which examines how the two countries share water from the river systems. The study addresses issues of water apportionment under the 1909 Boundary Waters Treaty and the 1921 order. The board's draft recommendations focus on improving water management and physical infrastructure, considering climate change impacts and apportionment challenges.
