The proposed law would require these data centers to source their electricity and water from private suppliers rather than relying on public utilities. This move aligns with a previous initiative by President Trump, which encouraged tech companies to cover the costs of their infrastructure needs. The legislation comes amid a rapid expansion of data centers across the U.S. to support the growing demand for AI technologies. Concerns have been raised by local communities in Florida, with over 20 counties and municipalities voting against the construction of such centers due to fears of rising utility bills, community disruption, and environmental impact.
