PapersOwl Survey Highlights Gen Z's Complex Relationship with Work and AI Usage
A recent survey conducted by PapersOwl, an academic resources platform, reveals insights into how Gen Z workers perceive their jobs and utilize technology in the workplace. The study, titled 'It’s Complicated: The State of Gen Z at Work in 2026,' surveyed 3,000 Americans aged 18-28. It found that a significant portion of Gen Z workers view their jobs as temporary 'situationships' rather than long-term commitments. The survey also highlights that 65% of Gen Z believe remote workers are often overlooked for promotions, despite valuing the flexibility remote work offers. Additionally, 59% of Gen Z workers have used AI tools at work without their employer's knowledge, indicating a trend of undisclosed AI usage. The survey underscores Gen Z's demand for fair pay, clear promotion paths, and mental health support as key factors for job retention.
