Loughborough University Hosts UK-Japan Hydrogen Summit to Address Net Zero Transition
Loughborough University recently hosted the UK-Japan Hydrogen Summit, focusing on the role of hydrogen in supporting the UK's industrial growth and AI-driven energy demands. The event, held on July 14, 2026, brought together 60 representatives from the hydrogen, energy, technology, and manufacturing sectors. Discussions centered on hydrogen's potential to power AI Growth Zones and meet the increasing electricity demands of data centers. The summit emphasized the need for the UK to accelerate hydrogen technology deployment to capture economic benefits and enhance energy resilience. Key speakers included Dr. Emma Guthrie, Chief Executive of the Hydrogen Energy Association, and Dr. Ziyad Sherif, a Research Fellow in Digital Manufacturing and Sustainability.
