Heat Wave Grips U.S., 100-Degree Temperatures Span Multiple States
A prolonged heat wave is affecting large portions of the United States, with temperatures exceeding 100°F (37.8°C) in cities from Florida to Arizona. According to NOAA and other weather agencies, Phoenix is forecast to reach 113°F (45°C), marking its 100th day of 100-degree temperatures this year. Other cities, including Dallas, Houston, and Miami, are also experiencing extreme heat. The heat wave is linked to high-pressure systems, known as heat domes, which trap warm air at the surface. This phenomenon has contributed to record-breaking temperatures and increased wildfire activity, with over 50,000 wildfires burning more than 7.8 million acres this year. Smoke from these fires has impacted air quality as far away as Detroit, which recently recorded the worst air quality globally.
