Heat Wave to Impact Mississippi Valley and Mid-Atlantic Ahead of Labor Day
A heat dome that previously affected the western United States is now shifting its focus to the Mississippi Valley, mid-Atlantic, and Southeast regions. Daytime high temperatures are expected to soar 10-15°F (5.5-8.3°C) above historical averages during the first few days of September. Cities such as Raleigh, North Carolina, and St. Louis, Missouri, may see temperatures approach 100°F (37.8°C), while Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C., are forecast to experience highs in the 90s°F (32-37°C). Chicago, Philadelphia, and Raleigh are expected to experience moderate heat waves, with Raleigh enduring the longest stretch of elevated temperatures from September 1 to September 4. The northern edge of the heat dome may also bring daily rounds of showers and thunderstorms to areas from the northern Plains to New England.
