Spain's Civil Guard and Safari Madrid Successfully Evacuate Animals Amid Wildfires
In Spain, as wildfires threatened the region west of Madrid, significant efforts were made to protect and evacuate animals from Safari Madrid and other sanctuaries. The Spanish Civil Guard played a crucial role in evacuating various species, including horses, goats, and household pets, from farms and sanctuaries. Safari Madrid, a safari park, became a temporary refuge for animals from the Kuna Iberica wildlife center, which included a Eurasian lynx and an Iberian wolf. The park's staff worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of approximately 1,000 animals by moving them into indoor enclosures and hosing down surrounding areas to prevent the spread of fire. Despite the proximity of the flames, all animals were saved, although some experienced stress due to the unusual confinement.
