Acorn Launches Decentralized Community Platform as X Shuts Down Communities
Acorn, a new project by Blacksky, has launched a platform for organizations and creators to build decentralized online communities. This comes as X, a centralized social media platform, shuts down its Communities feature. Acorn uses the AT Protocol, developed by Bluesky, to allow communities to create customized homepages, starter packs, and moderation tools. The platform aims to give creators control over their communities, reducing reliance on tech giants. Acorn is already being used by several communities and is in discussions with media companies and nonprofits.
