Study Links Male Infertility to Increased Risk of Colorectal and Thyroid Cancers
Recent research from Lund University in Sweden has identified a potential link between severe male infertility and an increased risk of developing colorectal and thyroid cancers. The study analyzed data from over 1.1 million men, finding that those with severe infertility who became fathers through assisted reproduction technology had nearly double the risk of colorectal cancer and triple the risk of thyroid cancer compared to men who fathered children naturally. This research builds on previous findings that men with reduced fertility are at higher risk for testicular and prostate cancers. The study suggests that genetic factors affecting sperm quality may also influence the risk of other diseases.
