France-Led FCAS Program Attracts India for Sixth-Generation Fighter Development
The Indian Defence Ministry has initiated efforts to join the French-led Future Combat Air System (FCAS) program, which focuses on developing sixth-generation fighter aircraft. This move is part of India's strategy to enhance its air combat capabilities in response to the evolving nature of warfare. A parliamentary panel has requested a clear roadmap and timeline for India's acquisition of these advanced aircraft. The panel emphasized the importance of not lagging in developing advanced air power and has sought a detailed status report on the development and acquisition of sixth-generation aircraft. The Indian Air Force is considering joining one of two consortia working on these aircraft, with the other consortium being a collaboration between the UK, Italy, and Japan.
