AI Revolutionizes Weather Prediction, Enhancing Speed and Local Detail for Everyday Forecasts
Artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed weather prediction, with major developments from organizations like NOAA, Google DeepMind, NVIDIA, and Microsoft. NOAA launched a new generation of AI-driven global weather models, offering substantial gains in speed and efficiency. Google DeepMind's GraphCast demonstrated that neural networks trained on historical weather data can match or surpass traditional physics-based models for short-term forecasts. NVIDIA's Earth-2 has reduced weather modeling computation time from hours to seconds, while Microsoft's Aurora and Huawei's Pangu-Weather have also entered the field.
