U.S. Department of Transportation Launches Intercity Bus Atlas to Map National Routes
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) has introduced the Intercity Bus Atlas, a new web-based interactive map designed to provide a comprehensive overview of intercity bus routes across the United States. This atlas currently displays nearly 2,000 intercity bus routes and approximately 3,500 stops, making it the only regularly updated map of the country's scheduled intercity bus network. The data for the atlas is voluntarily provided by about 60 scheduled intercity bus operators. The tool allows users to search for routes by city, displaying services originating from, arriving at, or passing through a selected location. Users can also filter the map by carrier to view a single operator's network. This initiative aims to simplify the process of finding intercity bus travel options, which has historically been challenging due to the lack of a central clearinghouse for bus routes and schedules, unlike air travel.
