Senator Klobuchar Introduces Bill to Regulate Major Search Platforms
Senator Amy Klobuchar has introduced the Securing Enforcement of Americans' Right to Competition at Home Act of 2026, aimed at regulating large online search and digital advertising platforms. The bill targets companies that control search engines, AI-powered search, or search ads, imposing restrictions on how they promote their own tools, use data, and make deals with device makers and browsers. It seeks to prevent these platforms from engaging in preferential treatment, exclusive agreements, and self-preferencing. The bill also mandates data sharing with competitors and requires platforms to provide a neutral choice screen for users. Enforcement would be carried out by the FTC, the Justice Department, and state attorneys general, with penalties for non-compliance.
