U.S. Attorney Drops Case Against Olympian, Cites Installation Flaws in Reflecting Pool Damage
Jeanine Pirro, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, has moved to dismiss charges against U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn, who was previously indicted for allegedly vandalizing the Reflecting Pool at the Lincoln Memorial. The charges were based on claims that Hearn had damaged the pool's liner. However, new evidence revealed that the damage was due to a 'flawed installation' by the contractor, Atlantic Industrial Coatings, rather than vandalism. The decision to drop the case follows the discovery of additional documents from the Interior Department, which indicated that the damage was a result of poor workmanship and rushed project completion ahead of the America 250 celebration. Hearn's attorneys criticized the Trump administration for using Hearn as a scapegoat and demanded an apology for the wrongful charges.
