Mezzetta Recalls Peperoncini Product Following Discovery of 'Pest Contaminant'
A California food manufacturer, Mezzetta, has issued a recall for its 32-ounce jars of golden Greek peperoncini, medium heat, after a customer allegedly discovered a dead rodent in one of the jars. The incident gained public attention through a video circulating on social media, specifically TikTok, where a woman claimed to have found the 'pest contaminant' while preparing a meal. Mezzetta confirmed awareness of the video and initiated a voluntary recall, stating that the affected product 'may contain foreign objects such as pest contamination.' The company has identified the customers who received the recalled product and is working directly with them to remove the affected items from sale. Mezzetta has also requested the original contaminated product for its investigation and is coordinating with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). At this time, no reports of illness or injury related to the product have been received.
