FDA Recalls Herbal Supplements Containing Toxic Yellow Oleander Sold Online

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a recall of two herbal supplements, niwali Tejocote Capsules and niwali Tejocote Pieces, manufactured by New York-based Global Mix Inc. The recall was initiated after FDA analysis revealed that these products, marketed as weight-loss aids, contained yellow oleander. Yellow oleander is a plant known to contain cardiac glycosides, which are highly toxic to both humans and animals. Ingesting yellow oleander can lead to severe or fatal neurological, gastrointestinal, and cardiovascular effects, including nausea, vomiting, dizziness, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and changes in heart rhythm. The products were sold nationwide through eBay.com and Everymarket.com. Global Mix Inc. issued the recall on September 21, and as of the recall notice, no illnesses or adverse events had been reported to the company. This recall is part of a broader FDA safety alert regarding dietary supplements found to contain yellow oleander, with the agency's investigation ongoing.

The drug is currently being evaluated in a global Phase 2b study, with topline data expected in the fourth quarter of 2026.
