Met Trustees Consider Rescheduling 2027 Gala Amidst John Galliano Controversy and Holocaust Remembrance Day Conflict
The Metropolitan Museum of Art's trustees are considering rescheduling the 2027 Met Gala, currently set for May 3, to avoid coinciding with Yom HaShoah, Holocaust and Heroism Remembrance Day. This deliberation comes amidst intensified criticism from donors, city officials, and Jewish leaders regarding the decision to honor fashion designer John Galliano. Galliano was convicted by a French court in 2011 for making antisemitic remarks in public. The gala is traditionally held on the first Monday in May, which in 2027 falls directly on Yom HaShoah. Vogue magazine, the event's de facto publication of record, still listed May 3 as the gala date as of August 29. According to Deadline, Met trustees and board members have been considering shifting the event by one week.
