Novant Health Investigates Unauthorized Intruder Incident at Matthews Medical Center
A patient at Novant Health Matthews Medical Center in North Carolina reported an unauthorized man entering her room and going through her personal belongings on July 25. The patient, who was being treated for pneumonia, described waking up to find a tall man rifling through her overnight bag. When confronted, the man falsely claimed that a doctor had sent him. The patient screamed for help, prompting the man to leave the room as a hospital employee entered. Although the patient was not physically harmed and nothing was stolen, the incident left her feeling unsafe. Novant Health is investigating the incident and working with local authorities, although the hospital's public safety team initially declined to file a formal police report. The patient and her daughter have expressed dissatisfaction with the hospital's handling of the situation and are calling for improved security measures.
