Dozens Arrested in Major Drug Pipeline Bust Connecting Mexico to Charleston, South Carolina
Attorney General Alan Wilson announced the arrest of 31 individuals as part of a multi-jurisdictional investigation dubbed 'Operation Last Stand.' This operation successfully dismantled a significant drug trafficking pipeline extending from Mexico directly to Charleston, South Carolina. The investigation resulted in five indictments and 59 charges, targeting international narco-terrorist cartels and gangs involved in large-scale narcotics trafficking, primarily in the Charleston area. According to Wilson, the pipeline was responsible for bringing hundreds of kilograms of cocaine, as well as methamphetamine and fentanyl, into South Carolina. Criminal organizations, including Tren de Aragua from Venezuela, were implicated in these activities. The operation originated last summer following a raid at a club in North Charleston, which led authorities to investigate unsanctioned nightclubs frequented by gang members and undocumented immigrants.
