Education Foundation of Palm Beach County Mobilizes Volunteers to Fill 36,000 Backpacks for Students
The Education Foundation of Palm Beach County is undertaking a significant initiative to fill 36,000 backpacks with school supplies for students in need. This effort, known as the Backpack Initiative, is in its eighth year and aims to provide essential learning tools to students at 55 Title I elementary and middle schools in Palm Beach County. The initiative is powered by a diverse group of volunteers, including senior citizens, teens, and professionals from various local organizations. These volunteers work in shifts at the foundation's Red Apple Supplies store, which serves as a free resource for teachers from high-need schools. The goal is to ensure that students start the school year with the necessary supplies to feel prepared and confident. As of July 24, 30,500 backpacks have been filled, with the target of 36,000 expected to be reached by the end of July.
