Florida Ranked Safest State for Summer Road Travel, Despite Increased Labor Day Risks
A new study by Kuzyk Personal Injury & Car Accident Lawyers has identified Florida as the safest state in the U.S. for summer road travel, achieving the lowest 'Aggressive Summer Driving Score' of 9.27 out of 100. The analysis, which reviewed crash records from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System between 2020 and 2024, focused on the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Florida notably recorded zero road rage fatal incidents per 100,000 people and had the lowest speeding fatality rate in the country at 0.65 per 100,000, less than half the national average. This finding is particularly significant given Florida's large population of approximately 22 million and its status as a major summer travel destination. However, the study also highlighted that the end of summer, particularly around Labor Day, presents a higher risk for Florida drivers, with 37 fatal wrecks involving speeding on Labor Day compared to 23 on Memorial Day, a 60.9% increase.
