Aspen-Pitkin County Airport Reopens Following Email Threat and Evacuation
The Aspen-Pitkin County Airport in Colorado reopened on Tuesday afternoon after an hour-long closure prompted by an unspecified email threat regarding airport property. Approximately 55 passengers, 40 airline employees, TSA personnel, rental car employees, and other staff were evacuated around 2:30 p.m. Kelsey Petersen, a spokesperson for the airport, confirmed the evacuation and subsequent reopening of the terminal at about 4 p.m. Law enforcement officials conducted an inspection of the airport premises before declaring it clear. During the incident, a SkyWest Airlines flight, which was scheduled to land in Aspen around 3 p.m., was rerouted back to Denver before eventually heading back towards Aspen.
