The Pacific Ocean is experiencing intense tropical cyclone activity, fueled by a strong El Niño. Hurricane Polo, a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 180 mph (290 km/h), is threatening the west coast of Mexico. Polo rapidly intensified, gaining 95 mph (153 km/h) in just 22 hours, making it the third Category 5 hurricane in the eastern Pacific this season. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Odalys may interact with Polo in a rare Fujiwhara Effect, where two storms orbit each other. Additionally, remnants of Tropical Depression Fifteen-E near Hawaii have a high chance of redeveloping into a tropical depression, potentially bringing heavy rain to the Big Island starting September 23. Hurricane Polo is also pushing tropical moisture into New Mexico, with rainfall expected to reach 3–5 inches in some areas.
