Jackson, a former president of the Maine Senate and a fifth-generation logger, is running against Republican incumbent Susan Collins. Harris, in a fundraising email, expressed her understanding of Jackson's situation, having experienced a similar rushed candidacy herself. The Democratic Party views this race as critical for regaining control of the Senate, needing to win in Maine and three other Republican-held seats while maintaining their current positions.
