Hurricane Isaias strengthens, prompts evacuations in Florida and Gulf Coast
Hurricane Isaias, the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, is intensifying as it approaches the Gulf Coast of the United States. The storm, currently a Category 2 hurricane with sustained winds of 100 mph, is expected to make landfall late Friday or early Saturday. It is forecasted to bring strong winds, heavy rainfall, and a life-threatening storm surge to the Florida Panhandle, southern Alabama, and southern Mississippi. Mandatory evacuations, school closures, and local government shutdowns have been announced in parts of Florida. First responders from South Florida, including Florida Task Force One and Florida Task Force Two, have been deployed to assist with search and rescue operations in the Panhandle.
