CoCoRaHS Highlights Extreme Weather Observations Across the U.S.
The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail & Snow Network (CoCoRaHS) has shared notable weather observations from across the United States for August 2026. These reports, submitted by volunteer observers, highlight significant weather events, including heavy rainfall, flooding, and extreme heat. For example, Alabama experienced a storm with heavy rain and lightning, while Ohio reported significant backyard flooding due to early morning downpours. Hawaii recorded extraordinary rainfall from Hurricane Lala, with a total of 29.77 inches in a 24-hour period. Other states, such as New Jersey, North Carolina, and Oklahoma, also reported torrential rain and record-breaking precipitation. Meanwhile, Texas continued to experience dry and hot conditions. These observations provide valuable insights into localized weather patterns and their impacts.
