Navy Considers Renaming Aircraft Carrier USS Doris Miller, Potentially Honoring President Trump
The U.S. Navy is reportedly considering renaming an aircraft carrier, currently designated as the USS Doris Miller, which was intended to honor a Black Pearl Harbor hero. Sources familiar with internal discussions indicate that there have been conversations about renaming the carrier to honor President Trump. This move would be unprecedented, as no aircraft carrier has ever been named after a sitting president. The Navy is also looking into naming another warship after Miller and recommending him for the Medal of Honor, the highest military valor decoration. The family of Doris Miller, including his great-nephew Thomas Bledsoe, was not informed of the potential name change but views the Medal of Honor recommendation positively.
