Rapidly Spreading Wildfire Devastates Ranchlands in Texas
A wildfire, named the Ross Fire, has rapidly expanded across rural Texas, burning over 78 square miles (200 square kilometers) of ranchland within a day. The fire, fueled by high temperatures, dry conditions, and strong winds, has destroyed multiple structures, including buildings at Worth Ranch, a youth camp. Evacuations have been ordered, schools have closed, and emergency shelters have been established. Firefighters, supported by water-dropping aircraft, are working to protect structures near Palo Pinto, but containment remains low at just 8% as of Tuesday evening. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has announced federal assistance to combat the fire, while urging residents to avoid activities that could spark additional blazes. The National Interagency Fire Center reports that wildfires are surging across the South and West, with over 50,000 fires recorded nationwide this year.
