FDA Issues Class I Recall for Publix Frozen Berries Due to E. Coli Contamination Risk
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has classified Publix's voluntary recall of certain frozen organic blueberries and mixed berries as a Class I recall. This classification, issued on August 18, indicates a 'reasonable probability' that consuming or being exposed to the berries 'will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.' The recall, initially started by Publix on June 25, includes 10-oz. frozen Organic Whole Blueberries with expiration dates before February 9, 2028 (UPC 41415-06453), affecting 44,994 units. Additionally, 39,520 units of 10-oz. Organic Whole Mixed Berries (UPC 41415-06753), 37,260 units of 48-oz. Frozen Organic Whole Blueberries (UPC 41415-12053), and 60,320 units of 48-oz. Frozen Organic Whole Mixed Berries (UPC 41415-12153) with the same expiration dates are also under Class I recall.
