American Kennel Club Opposes Expanded Breeder Regulations in Palm Beach County, Florida
The American Kennel Club (AKC) has voiced its opposition to proposed changes in Palm Beach County, Florida's animal control ordinance. These changes, which were recently postponed by the Board of Commissioners, included provisions that would negatively impact hobby breeders. Specifically, the proposed regulations sought to increase permit fees for hobby breeders by 166.7% and mandate inspections of their private homes as a condition for licensure. The stated goal of the county staff was to regulate unlicensed breeders. However, purebred dog fanciers and members of the public raised significant concerns regarding the scope and impact of these proposed changes on responsible hobby breeders.
