Zoetis Introduces Librela to Manage Canine Osteoarthritis Pain
Zoetis has developed a new treatment called Librela, a monthly injection using monoclonal antibody technology to manage pain in dogs suffering from osteoarthritis. This condition affects a significant portion of the canine population, with estimates suggesting that 40% of dogs by age four and 80% of dogs over eight years old are affected. Librela works by targeting the nerve growth factor, which is responsible for communicating pain signals to the brain. The treatment has shown promising results, with dogs like Zeus, a German Shepherd, experiencing significant improvements in mobility and behavior after receiving the injection. The development of Librela is part of Zoetis's broader efforts to enhance veterinary care through innovative treatments.
