Extreme Heat and Fire Risk Grip Southern California
Southern California is experiencing an intense heat wave, with temperatures reaching up to 112°F (44.4°C) in some areas, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). An extreme heat warning is in effect through 8 p.m. Friday, covering Los Angeles, Orange, and Riverside counties. Inland areas, including the San Gabriel and Santa Monica mountains, are expected to see triple-digit temperatures, while coastal regions may reach up to 102°F (38.9°C). The heat wave is accompanied by low humidity and gusty winds, prompting a red flag warning for critical fire danger in areas like the San Gabriel Mountains and northern Los Angeles County. Public Safety Power Shutoffs may affect 3,100 customers in high-risk areas to prevent wildfires caused by electrical equipment.
