Pennsylvania Senators Support DOT's SMART Initiative and Air Traffic Control Investments
U.S. Senators John Fetterman (D-PA) and Dave McCormick (R-PA) have announced their support for the Department of Transportation's (DOT) new Strategic Management of Airspace, Routes and Trajectories (SMART) initiative. This initiative aims to modernize America's airports and air traffic control systems by centralizing 200 data streams, including weather patterns, flight paths, traffic flow, and controller staffing metrics, into a single platform. The SMART system synthesizes this data to provide a comprehensive visualization of air traffic, helping to predict and manage congestion or weather-related challenges. Senator Fetterman, who toured the SMART Lab, highlighted its potential to transform commercial flying from a reactive to a predictive system.
