President Trump's Approval Ratings Remain Low Across Most U.S. States
President Trump's net job approval rating is negative in 47 out of 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia, according to a new YouGov/Economist projection. Only three states—Wyoming (+14), Idaho (+9), and West Virginia (+6)—show a majority approval for the president. These three states consistently voted for President Trump in the 2016, 2020, and 2024 presidential elections. Conversely, the lowest net job approval rating is in Washington D.C. (-83), followed by Maryland and Vermont, both at -50. These areas are historically Democratic strongholds. This data aligns with President Trump's overall record-low approval numbers in nationwide polling, including a recent Reuters/Ipsos poll from August 17, which indicated that only one in three Americans approve of his job performance. This marks the lowest approval rating for President Trump since his return to the White House in 2025.
