Virginia High School Failed to Address Antisemitism, Attorney General Investigation Finds
An investigation by the Virginia attorney general’s office has concluded that Yorktown High School in Arlington, Virginia, failed to adequately protect its Jewish students from antisemitic harassment. The 39-page summary of evidence, reviewed by The Free Press, indicates that school officials were "deliberately indifferent" to a hostile environment against Jewish students. Incidents included a male Jewish student being repeatedly targeted for wearing a kippah, a female student being chased for being Jewish, and students hearing Nazi salutes, Holocaust jokes, and threats. Despite warnings that harassment would not be tolerated, the report states that the principal and other school leadership rarely followed through with punishment. The investigation found "reasonable cause" to believe that Arlington County Public Schools (APS), which includes Yorktown, violated state and federal anti-discrimination laws.
