Washington Wildfires: Suspect Arrested as Over 700 Buildings Destroyed
A 37-year-old man, Aaron F. Farinacci, has been arrested on suspicion of starting one of the wildfires that have devastated areas around Spokane, Washington. The fires have destroyed more than 700 buildings and forced approximately 67,000 residents to evacuate. Farinacci was apprehended by the Spokane County sheriff's office and is being held on a $1 million bond. The wildfires, which have burned about 12.5 square miles, remain uncontained as over 1,000 firefighters work to control them. The arrest followed a tip from a local resident who reported seeing a suspicious man near the fire's origin. Farinacci, who has a previous felony manslaughter conviction, was found with matches and a butane lighter. His first court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
