Protesters and Advocates Express Frustration Over Maryland Redistricting Session
During a special legislative session in Maryland focused on a constitutional amendment for redistricting, advocates and protesters voiced their frustration over the limited scope of the session. The session, which was strictly focused on redistricting, did not address other pressing issues such as budget cuts to developmental disability services. House Minority Whip Jesse Pippy criticized the session for not allowing discussions on affordability issues. Protesters gathered in Annapolis to demand that lawmakers address additional concerns, including the inclusion of new congressional maps and the reversal of budget cuts. Despite the protests, the session continued to focus solely on the redistricting amendment, which could be put to voters on the November ballot.
