Newly-Elected Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk Joe Towns Jr. Claims Facebook Account Hacked Weeks Before Taking Office
State Representative Joe Towns Jr., the newly elected Shelby County Criminal Court Clerk, has stated that a controversial post on his Facebook page was not authored by him and that his account had been hacked. The post, which appeared on his page, advised individuals to 'Keep your gun with you and shoot on sight. Deal with the system later,' and also stated, 'Save your own damn life and don’t trust law enforcement.' Towns, who is set to take office in less than two weeks, narrowly defeated Shelby County Clerk Wanda Halbert for the position. He informed Action News 5's Joyce Peterson that he had been busy preparing for his new role at the Criminal Court Clerk’s office and had not immediately noticed or removed the post. He has since taken it down and issued a new post informing his followers that any recent direct messages, posts, or messages from him should be disregarded due to the hack.
