Extended Heat Wave Grips Los Angeles Area
Southern California is bracing for an extended heat wave starting Friday morning and lasting through at least next Thursday, with the possibility of continuing into the following weekend. Daytime highs are forecast to reach the 90s and 100s across the Inland Empire and valleys, while coastal areas will see temperatures in the high 80s to low 90s. Downtown Los Angeles, where October averages typically range from 75 to 80°F (24 to 27°C), will experience highs in the mid to upper 90s (35 to 37°C). Overnight temperatures will offer little relief, and humidity levels are expected to remain low, increasing wildfire risks. Extreme heat watches have been issued for Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Ventura Counties, as well as Orange County, where inland areas could see highs up to 108°F (42°C). Record-breaking temperatures are possible during this prolonged heat event.
